Those who love horse races know that it is more than racing horses. The racing crowd represents America’s closest link to royalty; the Sport of Kings is not for those without the bank account to support the finer things of life.
The Brown Derby Eve Party hosted by the former Doublemint Twins, Priscilla Barnstable and Patricia Barnstable Brown, is the most coveted invitation of all the Derby events. This year’s 20th anniversary party was a combination of the elite of society, Hollywood creme-de la -creme, sports stars, and A-listers from around the world.

While the party is focuses entertainment, underneath the glitz lies a truly worth cause. The gala is a fund raiser for diabetes research in honor of Tricia Brown’s late husband, Dr. David Brown who died in 2003 from complications of the disease.
“It’s going to be a fabulous time!” enthuses Barnstable Brown. “Last year we raised a million dollars for diabetes research, and we’re going to surpass that goal in grand style.”
The grants will go to the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky where they will be used to support pediatric, or Type I, diabetes. Each year in the US 15,000 children are diagnosed with diabetes which can be managed with proper care but for which there is no cure. The damage caused by the disease often leads to other medical conditions and often leads to a decrease in the lifespan of the patient.

While all eyes in Louisville will be focused on the track on Saturday afternoon, the deadly race to find a cure for the debilitation of diabetes continues its slow progress helped in part by the generosity of the Barnstable twins.
